What's On My Heart

Now that several months have passed since the tragic earthquake of January 12, 2010, what’s been on my heart?  Besides trying to find somewhat of a “new normal” in my everyday circumstances, I find myself fairly consistently thinking of and praying for my friends and loved ones in Grand Goave, Haiti.  I am so very far away and cannot just drop everything and get back there – oh, how I wish I could!  But God has me here in Oregon for a reason and I’m waiting on Him to show me what He wants me to do.

I’ve shared my story of the events of January 12 and how they changed my perspective on so many things.  I’ve purchased and sent gifts and necessities to our sponsored child – 10-yr-old Farah Francois and her family.  I’ve sent in our monthly donation for her sponsorship – and added a few dollars extra for her family.  But what else is there?  There has to be more!!

I have participated in a fund raiser of a children’s consignment sale.  That wasn’t a huge resource of funds, but over 300 customer families were made aware of Lifeline Christian Mission and the ongoing needs in Grand Goave.  I have jumped into the BCC sewing ministry with more fervor – providing clothing and quilts for children who need them – mostly in Grand Goave of course!  I will be promoting child sponsorship at the BCC International Outreach Day on May 23, 2010.  Introducing people to children in need has turned out to be an exciting opportunity for me to be involved in!

In the big scheme of things, this isn’t a lot, but it’s something.  It’s now a passion of mine and I will share it every chance I get.  Since this is a new opportunity for me, I’m still learning how to go about the sharing part.  It would be disastrous for me to offend or come across as arrogant, but I want very  much to share that we all – every one of us – have a few moments, a few dollars, a few extra of something that we can share with someone in need.  For me, it’s a little girl across the world who means more to me and my family than we could ever imagine!
